Katie Carlson Cartwright received her Masters of Music in vocal performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and her Bachelor of Music from the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music. Katie currently performs with the San Francisco Opera Chorus and has performed in their productions of Eugene Onegin, Fidelio, Romeo and Juliet, Manon, Turandot, La Bohéme, Aida, Andrea Chénier, Don Carlo, Die Meistersinger, Les Troyens and Mephistopheles. She currently can be seen in Wagner’s Lohengrin. She has performed the role of Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), and Yum-Yum (The Mikado). 

 

She has performed with and was on staff with AIMS (American Institute of Musical Studies) a summer program in Graz, Austria for four summers. Katie was born and raised in Woodland and is a graduate of Holy Rosary School and Woodland High School. She has studied voice since she was twelve years of age, first studying with Lenore Turner- Heinson and her first performance was at the Woodland Opera House. Katie is currently a student of Catherine Cook, mezzo-soprano for the San Francisco Opera and voice teacher at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. 

 

In addition to performing, Katie worked for seven years with Yolo Stage Company, taught music for five years at Holy Rosary School and has been musical director for rising stars productions at the Woodland Opera House. She currently teaches a full voice studio and enjoys working with her private voice students.

Katie can also be seen singing the National Anthem at events throughout the Bay Area, including the San Jose Earthquakes, San Jose Sharks, Sacramento Kings and the San Francisco Giants.​

When Katie is not singing, she enjoys spending time with her husband Michael whom she met at San Francisco Opera and chasing around their toddler Luke!
